Choosing a fridge-freezer

Four key questions to ask before you buy:

1. What space do I need? Decide whether you would like a large fridge and smaller freezer or vice versa. The average fridge-freezer has a capacity of 165-200ltr and a freezer capacity of 65-88ltr, but other combinations do exist.

2. What features do I need? A quick-freeze button lowers the freezer temperature, so freshly added food is frozen quickly to preserve its quality. A frost-free function prevents the build-up of frost in the freezer by regulating the temperature.

3. What about energy ratings? Appliances are rated A+ to G for their energy efficiency with A+ being the most efficient, cutting your electricity bills.

4. What else should I look for? Glass shelves are easy to clean and racks circulate the air easily, so you may want both. Bottle racks are also a useful feature. Some models come with linings and filters that prevent bacteria growth.
