Revive your living room

Can't afford a major revamp? You can still give your living room a fresh new feel with a bit of rearranging and a few clever buys

Swap the coffee table for a nest of tables. Easy to move, and taking up less space than a coffee table, a neat nest will make the room appear larger.

Paint one wall. A single 2.5ltr tin of paint is usually enough to cover most walls, so this is a cheap and easy way to give the whole room a lift. Go for spring shades for a really fresh feel.

Update your sofa. Even well-used sofas can be revived and given a new look if you cover them in bright floral cushions.

Clear the clutter. A simple bit of reorganisation can create a fresh feel. Make sure there is plenty of storage, and tidy away clutter-offenders, such as remote controls and magazines, in baskets.

Go for the personal touch. Family photos add instant warmth to a room. Try making a feature by grouping four or five together in a gallery-style display.

Have a good clean. Refresh your curtains, carpets and loose seat covers with a wash or trip to the dry cleaners. Just don't forget to check the labels first.
