• Add texture
If you're going to be tiling large areas, choose a tile that has a subtle texture – whether it's a pattern or a simple crackle glaze.

• Get the fixtures right
Chrome fixtures go brilliantly with white, although antique gold (but not brass) taps and fittings are making a comeback.

• Make your room bigger
White is ideal for small rooms as it stretches space. In large rooms, you'll need to add deep-pile bathmats, fluffy towels and artwork to create a more relaxed feel.
