warm up bedroom

Warm up your bedroom for winter

Create a chic retreat with our guide to making your bedroom snug

Create a warm feel
Start with a cool white backdrop and add warmth with dark wood furniture and fabrics in off-white and taupe. For the bed, create a feeling of luxury with crisp white linen contrasted with super-soft knits. Finish off with a faux-fur bedside rug for a cosy feel.

Where to buy
Mirror, £65, Oka. Bed, £979, Willis and Gambier. Rug, £60, Celtic Sheepskin. Bedside table, £99.99 for a nest of three, Next. White throw, £45, House of Fraser. Duvet cover, £50; Pillowcases, £10 each; striped bedspread, £100; all John Lewis.

Make a well-dressed bed
There's nothing cosier or more welcoming than a sumptuous bed. Layering is key to this look, so pile on cushions, a bedspread or quilt and a throw – you can't overdo it. Mix subtle tones of white and cream with taupe for depth, then climb in and snuggle up.

Get cosy by candlelight
Create a focal point as darkness falls by grouping different shapes and styles of lanterns, votives and tealight holders on a tray and using it as a centrepiece on a table, shelf or footstool.
