So says the first-ever Halifax Home Insurance Quality of Life Survey, which collates data from the ONS, the Met Office, the Department for Transport, and the Halifax House Price index, to find out which local authority areas have the best lifestyles.
Variables considered included:
• employment
• earnings
• housing quality and prices
• weather
• traffic flows
• crime
• education performance
• health
Top of the table is the Surrey borough of Elmbridge. Why? For starters, it apparently has two more hours of sunshine each week than the British average, which can't be bad.
Average earnings are a cushty £1,112 per week; residents tend to be owner-occupiers (78 per cent), and the homes that they own are larger than average, having an ample 6.1 rooms. No wonder 95 per cent of Elmbridge dwellers reckon they are in good or fair health.
