Choosing and fitting the ideal blind

Blind experts Novatec give us their top tips to choose, fit and hanging the perfect blind

Do you want a roller or Venetian blind? There's so much choice! Help is at hand ….we asked blind manufacturer Novatec for a point in the right direction on how to hang blinds.

1. Measuring:

  • Always use a metal tape for accuracy.

  • Choose whether you want the blind to fit outside or inside the window recess.

  • Always give the lowest measurement, measuring the width in several places in case the walls are not straight.

  • Decide whether you would like the controls on the right or left handside.

    2. Choosing:

  • Choose Roller blinds in moisture resistant fabrics for kitchens and bathrooms.

  • Also choose roller blinds in dim-out fabrics for children's bedrooms.

  • If you've got a wide window, consider fitting 2 or 3 blinds across the width. You can alter the height of each and it will look more pleasing on the eye.

  • For large patio windows or for room dividing, choose sliding panels from Novatec or eclectics.

  • For maximum light control, choose Venetian blinds.

  • For windows that are overlooked, choose a blind that pulls up from the bottom of the window, still allowing light in at the through the top of the window.

    3. Fitting:

  • With Roller blinds, it is important that if top fixing (within the window recess), the surface is level. If face fixing (above the window frame), it is important that your brackets are level so use a spirit level.

  • To avoid mistakes, use a pencil to mark correct position. You only get one chance at it and, especially with PVC windows, mistakes can be costly.
