How to keep your linen fresh
Our top tips on organising your linen cupboard and keeping your clothes fresh
You'll never have to hunt for a matching pillowcase or re-wash due to musty smells again by following these linen cupboard handy hints:
The cupboard
Unfinished wood can stain fabrics over time so stop the contents getting dirty by painting your cupboard or using lining paper –.
Ideally, your cupboard should have different height shelves but you could use baskets and dividers instead. Choose ones that are open at the front so you can see what's in them.
Sheets and blankets
Save time by putting fitted and unfitted in separate piles.
Store blankets at the top of the cupboard, as you won't need them as often.
Bed and table linen
Keep bed linen sets together, either in small wire baskets or by storing the whole set inside one of its pillowcases. You could use a similar trick for table linen sets, making up a cloth bag.
Towels
Create piles of the same size.
Remember to return them freshly laundered to the bottom of the pile to ensure even wear and tear.
Sweet smells
Stop linens from getting musty by placing an open container of baking soda at the back of the cupboard.
Gently scent the cupboard with sachets of pine, cedar, vanilla or fresh lavender hanging from the shelves. Wrap the sachet in cheesecloth to ensure the contents don't mark your clothes.
