Kitchen time saving tips from James Martin

Celebrity chef James Martin gives us his top time-saving shortcuts in the kitchen.

Want to cut down the amount of time you spend in the kitchen? We chatted to celebrity chef James Martin, to get his top time-saving shortcuts for the kitchen.

'Firstly it's important to choose the right equipment', says James. 'Any gadget or utensil that saves me time always gets well used in my kitchen; some of my favourites are a mandolin slicer, mini grinder and rotary grater.'

'Buy very good all-butter ready-made pastry - you can't beat making your own, but this is definitely a great time-saver,' says James.

'Always read the recipe before you start and check that you have all the ingredients and equipment needed,' says James. 'Making a mistake half way through can mean you'll have to start again'.

'Wash, chop, weigh and keep all your ingredients close to hand in the order that you're going to need them. You'll cook more efficiently and save time!' he adds.

'Don't be frightened to cook things in advance and warm them through properly when required.'
