ASK CHRIS : Save me from a mountain of dog hair!

Consumer Editor Chris Haslam answers your queries

Q. Summer is coming and my dog will be shedding even more hair. Could you suggest a good vacuum cleaner to save my furnishings?

Jennifer Holland, Luton

A. A decent vacuum cleaner is essential when you've got a dog. I know from the hours I spend vacuuming around mine all spring!

I've tested out a few - if you want a vacuum cleaner with a bag, the powerful 2200 watt motor of the Cat & Dog from Miele (£190) will lift animal hairs and fur from carpets and hard floors with ease.

Its Turbobrush is excellent for stubborn pet hairs, and the mini Turbobrush will pick up every bit of fluff from your sofa and chairs. The Active AirClean filter has activated charcoal to prevent smells, and the Intensive clean dustbag will keep dirt, dust and hairs firmly trapped within.

If you prefer a bagless cleaner, go for Dyson's Animal DC15 (£359.99) or telescopic DC20 model (£299). Both have a mini turbine, a brushbar that turns on and off, a hard floor tool and long bristled brush for delicate floors, plus a HEPA filter to trap allergens, and other nasties.
