Cola as a cleaning product?
      #2145 - 22/05/2009 11:16

Has anyone heard/tried/can recommend a great cleaning product to clean a grubby, old toilet? I can't replace it for now, and have heard that leaving cola over night, is the best way to combat stains and leave it good-as-new. Is this an old wives' tale, or can anyone suggest a great product? Thanks!

Hi

I know it will clean up old pennies but never used it on bathroom fittings. I usually find that bleach will do most things but can highly recommend Dettox mould and mildew remover. Good Luck. Elaine1

To clean a toilet: Pour a can of coke into the toilet bowl, let it sit for about an hour, then flush clean. Be sure to get all the Coke cleaned up.

Hello
I'm not sure about using cola in the toilet, but I do know that it's what cops use to get blood off of a road or driveway where someone has been killed or very seriously injured. You can also pour it on corroded car battery contacts to clean them off. I would think that it could very well work in the toilet, but that the toilet would need to be completely empty otherwise the coke wouldn't be able to fizz against your porcelain throne. I think the water in the bowl would totally screw that up.

The only other alternatives I can think of are bleach, but if you're like me and don't use bleach you can try something called a "pumice" that can be found in hardware stores. It's pumice stone on a stick for the most part. Good luck!

Hello

1) Clean Your Toilet with White Vinegar: If your toilet has more stains and rings than clean areas, then it is time to get serious. Pour a bit of white vinegar into the toilet bowl and leave it soak for about an hour. You can buy white vinegar in most supermarkets, and it is quite cheap.Scrub with a toilet brush as you usually do. When you have thoroughly scrubbed the stained area, flush the vinegar down the drain. As you flush, you will find that the stains are history. As a secondary benefit, the vinegar will help clean out the drain as it flows down the toilet.

2) Clean Your Toilet with Alka-Seltzer: Are you looking for a new, refreshing way to clean your toilet or just trying to find a way to use up some old Alka-Seltzer tablets? Well, this tip to clean your toilet with Alka-Seltzer will do the trick. To clean your toilet, just drop two Alka-Seltzer tablets into the toilet bowl and then wait about twenty minutes. Brush and scrub the toilet bowl, then flush the toilet. The citric acid and effervescent action of the Alka-Seltzer tablets clean china toilets with little effort on your part!
