Hello...I am trying to decorate my first apartment...first time for everything...but my Mother who is has decorated a few houses in her time seems to have her own very strong ideas which contradict mine. I have light wooden flooring in a relatively small sitting room and yesterday I bought sleek black chrome furniture with white specially made leather chairs and a black matching sideboard...with a charcoal coloured corner couch...the walls in the living room are cream (need to mention I didn't put the floor down or paint the walls)...I rushed out to my Mom last night to show her all my cool stuff my boyfriend and I picked out...only to confront sheer horror...I tried to explain that what I was decorating was a city apartment for a 25year old couple...not a large family home in the suburbs...to no avail. I am terrified now that I have spent a small fortune on furniture that will look absolutely hideous...and will end up hating my new home. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? I want a kind of sleek modern funky look...but what if I get a gothic mismatched prison cell look...

yes tell ur mom u appre her input but u r starting out in life (ur life) and gut instincts are usually right (iam a mom to 3/  30 something lads )enjoy ur stuff

Just do what you like and what you feel. Interior decorating can be classified as a form of Art and if you know the meaning of Art, you will never be worried of what others say.. Go for it!!
