The kitchen's the place to cook this summer

Sarah Warwick reveals the results of our recent poll on barbecues.

In a recent blog, I confessed to not having been brave enough to get the barbie out so far this year, and I'm not the only one. Some 44% of you have stayed indoors to prepare meals this summer, not venturing into the garden to cook even once.

Meanwhile, 17% had just the one barbecue – when the sun did come out or when it refused to show up but you had a gardenful of hungry guests?

But the biggest surprise is the number of people who've had more than five barbecues. Some 12% of you are hardy souls who haven't been put off by the inclement conditions, or else live in a region that must have bucked the trend this summer with gorgeous weather that just makes you want to spend your days outside.

If you're in the latter category, let me know where you live. I'm thinking of moving there.
