Is loving pattern a question of age? asks Sarah Warwick

Are younger homeowners in love with pattern?

Carpet company Brintons visited Ideal Home yesterday. Brintons offers a huge range of coloured plain carpets, and patterned designs – with everything from tartans and stripes to florals.

Beautifully patterned wallpapers have become a big trend in recent years and now people are embracing the notion of confidently adding pattern to their floors too.

Interestingly, though, it's the younger buyers that Brintons has found to be most enthusiastic about the patterned designs.

Is it because the younger age groups are new to pattern – when they first became homeowners plains were a much stronger trend, so introducing pattern feels like a brand-new and exciting experience for them?

For the older buyers, who are often leading a calmer life, perhaps pattern is too much of a reminder of the psychedelic patterns from the 60s and the non-stop days of partying!

Do you think that choosing pattern divides us along age lines? Let us know on our forums now.
